From Barb-- I don't often make "commercial" recommendations, but www.churchsafety.com is conducting a survey of what church leaders should do when a registered sex offender starts attending their church. I am a fan of Christianity Today's host of resources which are practical and helpful. I also took classes with Richard Hammar back when I was working on my D.Min degree before I became a regional minister (and never finished...) Here's what came today via email: "We hosted a webinar earlier this month with noted church attorney, Richard Hammar. During the Q&A portion of this online event, two participants asked about what church leaders should do when a registered sex offender starts attending their church. We then polled webinar attendees, asking whether they knew of a registered offender currently attending their church. Half said yes. At this very moment across the country, church leaders are wrestling with how to respond to the presence of a known offender in their midst. You may be one of those leaders. And if you're not facing this dilemma yet, you likely will at some point. The Department of Justice estimates that at least one known offender lives within every square mile throughout America. Because of this reality, we're conducting a groundbreaking, 10-minute survey on this critical subject. Responses are kept confidential, and they will provide us with powerful answers for future articles and resources to help church leaders like you. In return, you'll receive a free copy of our training resource, "Child Sexual Abuse Response Plan." You can read Richard's response to the question: How should we handle a sex offender who attends our church?"

STAFF UPDATES
|
From Barbara Jones: Ely Bulness, Donna Rountree and I are back from General Board! It was a good experience, and being an off-year of General Assembly, there were no “resolutions” to report on. This Sunday the 25th I will celebrate the covenant of call of Lewis Godby with First Christian, Mountain Home! Grandson #2 is due 2 weeks from today and Kim is moving rapidly into early stages of labor. We have staff meeting here in Little Rock Monday, and after that, I’ll work from where-ever I am; or take vacation as needed. They “will call us when the time comes”. Pray for patience for me; sanity for the staff. Or is it the other way around?
From Rick Hamilton: This weekend I will be helping with Youth Sunday at First Christian Church in Fayetteville. Then I will travel to Little Rock for staff meeting. I have restarted occasional publication to my Blog: grrick.blogspot.com. The latest post is on requirements for selecting congregational leaders. I will try to note postings here in the future.
Search Committees I am currently supporting:
Bentonville First (Associate)
From Michael Elmore: This weekend I will be at FCC Fort Smith, AR leading a workshop on "Becoming a Spiritual Church: Take Time to be Holy," and preaching on Sunday. Then traveling to Little Rock for a staff meeting.
Search Committees I am currently supporting:
FCC Lake Charles, LA
FCC Gulfport, MS
From Vance Moore: This past Sunday I preached at FCC Weiner, AR.
On Wednesday I conducted an outreach workshop at FCC in Jonesboro. There were 16 folks in attendance from four of the northeast AR churches. We spent time looking at outreach and the beginning of “critical presence” programs in the local church. We’re excited about looking “next door” and beyond. We serve an awesome God. What a blessing to be able to “be” His hands in a hurting world!
Search Committees I am currently supporting:
FCC Newport, AR
Community CC, Hardy, AR
Westside Mission: 15 Youth and Adults came from FCC Baton Rouge, LA came on a weekend “working” trip this past weekend. We taped sheetrock in two houses and spent some time helping the plumber fill in a huge 7 foot deep ditch he’d dug to install new utilities. Great trip guys and gals. Hope to see you back again soon.
Welcome to Laura as the new Associate at FCC Baton Rouge. Great job!!!
WHERE DID YOU SEE GOD TODAY?
