Hello, Sandra, Barb and anyone else this might get forwarded to.
Yesterday I had my visit with the neurosurgeon to try to explain what is
happening in my spine. Hopefully that is the last "diagnostic" appointment I
have. I can't think of any kind of doctor or any test I haven't had. So now if
we can just go forward with treatment and monitor what's happening inside.
The neurosurgeon agreed with the tests that showed something happening in
my spine but he was not sure what. It could be cancer, but it could be
a couple of other things. If it's cancer, the treatment I'm already on is the
right thing. He wants to do another scan of the back in 3 months to see if there
is change, for good or bad, and then go from there. If things still look
strange, he may order a spinal biopsy then but for now, he did not seemed too
concerned. I take that as a good sign. Everything is relative, you know.
The next treatment for the bone cancer will be next Friday (23rd). It has
been 3 weeks since the first one and I've weathered the side effects of achy
bones, fever, and fatigue fairly well. And I'm sleeping better, which is
what I needed most.
Overall, we are doing well. Still trying to get Katy in school. Hopefully
that will happen Monday or Tuesday. We have definitely had enough quality
mother-daughter time. She has begun meeting with a "life care specialist" at a
cancer support centre for children and teens. I think that will be helpful for
her. I will hook up with a support group on Monday and am looking
forward to that. Micky is busy with school (where her GPA is 6.0 - teeheehee),
work, and a social life that we have sorely impacted. But she is patient, for
the most part. When she is not available to drive us around, Hyde Park Christian
Church, the Owens (young and old), and members of the Presbyterian Seminary
community are very helpful.
God continues to be busy in our lives and every day is a blessing. Thanks
for your support and your continuing prayers and words of encouragement.
