HIGHLAND DRIVE CHRISTIAN COMPLETES MISSION TRIP

A group of volunteers from Highland Drive Christian Church recently traveled to New Orleans to assist in the rebuilding effort being done by the Westside Christian Church Mission Center located on the West Bank in New Orleans.   The Mission Center's work is coordinated through the Great River Region of the Disciples of Christ.  The Great River Region includes churches in Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana.   Brother Vance Moore, former minister at Highland Drive, is the Director of the Mission Center and minister of the church.

Church members completed work underway at two homes devastated by the hurricanes in August of 2005.   This is a project of a combined effort through the Elijah Christian Ministries Rebuild Team of which Westside Mission is a part.

The primary emphasis was to help complete and prepare the home of 100 year old Mrs. Rose for a Home Blessing and welcome home celebration on Saturday, Dec. 8.  Work included painting, landscaping, and sodding the yard.  The event was covered by 3 television stations as well as newspaper coverage.   The newscasts appeared on ABC national news and CNN.

The group also worked on a second home repairing and replacing siding. Both ladies were still residing in FEMA trailers on their property.    Highland Drive has made major monetary contributions in the past to the Westside Mission Center.  There is still much work to be done and the group is planning a second trip in the spring.
